Grading And Rules

Participation in the lectures is mandatory because the presentations and discussions are an essential part of the learning experience and will be part of the grading. If you are not able to attend the class or sick just before or on a deadline you are expected to call or e-mail the teacher upfront that you cannot attend. Only good reasons such as being sick are accepted.

The final grade of the class will be derived as follows (for more details see the assignment page:

  • 25% from the presentation,
  • 10% from participation and discussion during class,
  • 25% from the implementation, and
  • 40% from the final paper.

For being able to pass the class you have to pass the presentation, implementation, and paper parts individually (i.e., at least 50% for each part). You also have to have at least 60% of the overall grade to pass. For all assignments that involve handing in or presenting some part there is the rule of strict deadlines. There will be no extensions unless for very good reasons that are communicated well ahead of time.

If I find that a student is cheating they will receive no points and, thus, fail the class; further disciplinary measures may be taken.

Finally, individual results from the class are only valid during the year the class was taken, and expire afterward. This means you cannot do the class this year and, for example, try to improve only the paper part the next year.
